Duplicate song detection and deletion

description

It's really easy to bloat up Google Music with duplicate songs. Could we please get a decent duplicate song detector, and an option to automatically delete duplicates?

Google Play Music already has a duplication detection system that identifies songs by metadata. http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1246401

Are you uploading songs from multiple locations?

I am a tester for a major product. Come on folks, you know that users will find every conceiveable way to mess up an application. Uploading from multiple locations/devices, computers. You have to program the stupid out of a product. Meta data, no meta data, file size mismatch, file name inconsistent, Google is WAY too big and smart to have this an issue. Apple isn't great but does a decient job of minimizing duplicates. Are they really that much better than you? At the VERY LEAST, make it easy to unmark titles one does not want to see in a play list. The world is full of non programmers and programming for them is a nightmare.

Duplicate checking doesn't seem to be working.

Especially if you download your collection, and then add something new. It will re-add every single song.

I've noticed that one of the apparent reasons why Google Play Music will download duplicates (or MORE) is b/c the file properties at source (Goodle Play Music) have been changed and so no longer match previous downloads to your computer. Sometimes they will change the Artist field, or change the Owner (buyer) from a long number to the owner's actual name and email, etc.

This is still an issue.

My library is loaded with duplicate tracks that have the same title, artist and album. How rediculous.

I agree, this is a big issue. I've uploaded music from my file server through a couple generations of server (i.e. replaced the machine) in hopes of having it just refresh the library, adding new tracks but ended up with duplicate albums.

Making it exactly match the metadata really isn't intelligent. At the very least, we need a utility that scans the library, deleting duplicates within the same album. Without this, my library is almost unusable since every song plays twice.

Is there a public API for the Google music service so that I could write my own scrubber?
